Open Link Chain
Manufacturing of chains in 20th century

The MARIT company was started in 1904 by Isidore MARIT, a blacksmith who specialized in the fabrication of nails and hand forged chains. The first chains from MARIT were produced in a factory based in the city of Raismes, Northern France.

During the course of the 20’s, the company expended and moved to Saint Amand les Eaux, the capital of welded chains.

Thanks to its know-how and innovation capabilities, the MARIT company saw a fast growth and soon became the leader position among the French chains manufacturers.

Thanks to its technical capabilities, MARIT specialised in the manufacturing of Studlink chain and Open link chain and high resistance steel accessories for navy, military, maritime and harbor activities. In the 90’s, MARIT has been awarded contracts by the French Navy for the mooring system of the Charles De Gaulle Aircraft Carrier.

In 1995 and under the 4th generation of the MARIT family at the head of the company, the offices and production were relocated to Valenciennes on a 20,000² plant.

The MARIT company continues its growth by expanding internationally, especially in the offshore applications thanks to its now globally renown know-how for high resistance steel chains grade R3. R3S, R4 and R5. The MARIT company has now become a global leader for the manufacturing of chafe chains towards offshore applications.
